G scale modeler Jerry Creighton is developing a modular layout in his basement. As with most of us modelers, he isn't afraid to experiment or take a little levity in developing a scene. Basically, the layout is on a logging theme from the Wisconsin woods.

All the ties are hand cut from the local woods. The rails are hand laid, and the switches are hand built.

The cars are scratch built, with plenty of details. The flat car holds tanks for holding water for the forest fire fighting crews. The Shays really puffed some sparks and cinders.

While helping to clear brush around the N.M.R.H.A. building Jerry collected some trees. All the other trees are scratch built from various plants and shrubs in the area. He experiments all the time with foliage. The trees on the G gauge layout in Crosslake are his products.


The water tank car is almost ready for staining and weathering.
