G Scale Train

July 2017 video of the G scale layout by Russell Jones showing the latest additions to the layout.

The G scale train runs around the upper perimeter of the 30’ x 30’ HO layout room.  The track is powered.  The original layout track was laid on plywood, which turned out to be very noisy.  The members removed the rail and then laid in pieces of Homosote, and then relayed the track. Each section of the track was hard wired to the power lines that run around the whole track.  The summer scene features hand made trees and several background buildings.  During the Holidays, “snow” is strategically place around the layout.

This shot shows the originally beginnings in 2006.

Things have changed considerably over the years.

Bob Moengen, Jerry Creighton and Dick Elmquist are hard
at work putting together a panorama for the G scale layout .

A series of scenes are being glued to a piece of
aluminum sheeting that is close to 16 feet long.

With the help of several members, the panorama was
carried out into the HO layout room where the G scale
layout circles around the room. The aluminum sheet
was slipped into channels that had been screwed into the wall.
The result is an expansive site for visitors to see
breaking up the tlat background wall.
